About Dr Maran

I established the Springfield Wellness Centre with a goal to treat patients who are suffering from the perils of obesity and other gastrointestinal problems. My team and I make it our priority to provide our patients and their kin with peace of mind. My choice to pursue Gastroenterology with GI Endo-Surgery and Bariatric Surgery was purely out of passion. My undying interest in this field has enabled me to be one of the firsts to start any advanced laparoscopic and bariatric procedures in Chennai. I have successfully carried out numerous GI Endo Surgeries like Piles Surgery, Appendix Removal Surgery, Cancer Removal Surgeries in the GI tract, Gallbladder Removal Surgery, etc.

In addition to my MBBS degree, which I completed in 1994 from Thanjavur Medical College, I also completed my Fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopy trained at Zurich University, Switzerland. Along with that I also completed my Fellowship in Bariatric surgery trained at Minnesota University, the United States, and my Fellowship in Gastrointestinal Endo Surgeries in India.

Among my various achievements in GI Endo-Surgery and Bariatric Surgery, the following are some of the most noteworthy mentions.

• I was the first Bariatric Surgeon in the Asia-Pacific to perform Bariatric procedure on a patient with a very high BMI.
• I also performed the first Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery for Partial Gastrectomy (removal of the stomach) along with a Hysterectomy (removal of the uterus) and right Adrenalectomy (removal of adrenal glands in case a tumor in the adrenal glands) through a transperitoneal (passing through the peritoneal region) approach in the Asia-Pacific.
• I was the first Bariatric Surgeon in India to perform single-port right adrenalectomy.
• I also have performed single port bariatric surgery in India with a hysterectomy and hernia repair surgery on a single patient as a first in India.
